Summer Activities For Seniors
With warm weather all around and summer in full swing, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the nice weather. Located in the heart of Westchester County, NY, Broadview at Purchase College offers so many ways to enjoy the beautiful outdoors and cool off inside when the afternoon sun gets too hot. Here are some ways to enjoy the amazing summer activities for seniors in New York state (and stay safe while doing it!).
Start Your Day Early to Beat the Heat!
As the sun travels through the sky, temperatures tend to increase. Make the most of your time outside by planning activities in the morning before the heat sets in, or in the evening when it cools down a bit. Thankfully, there’s so much to do right in the Broadview community and Purchase College campus! Our community is fully combined with the college campus, sharing its 500 acres of beautifully landscaped and wooded grounds. Enjoy the centrally located 11-acre park with walking trails, fenced dog run, summer porches on each floor, and so much more!
Want to head off-campus? Summer in Westchester County offers a wide variety of activities to entice you outside and keep you active. Explore the area’s numerous parks, or hit a couple rounds at one of the many renowned golf courses. Enjoy scheduled transportation to Metro-North Railroad in White Plains, where you’ll find a wide variety of shops and services as well as cultural and social events.
Take the Fun Indoors
If it gets too hot or inclement weather hits, head inside to one of Broadview’s amazing community spaces, like our Learning Commons or one of our many dining venues. Our campus offers a wide range of indoor summer activities for seniors. Visit one of the amazing learning opportunities at Purchase College, like The Neuberger Museum of Art, art galleries, library, and The Performing Arts Center. Want even more? New York City is only 30 miles away! Enjoy all the exciting amenities of the Big Apple, like Broadway shows, fine dining, and sporting events.
Cool Off In the Water
If the weather gets too hot, take a dip and cool off in Broadview’s indoor pool. Afterwards, relax on the outdoor sundeck or visit our therapeutic spa and luxurious salon for some pampering.
For some more natural beauty, head to nearby Rye, NY, to experience some of the area’s loveliest beaches and boardwalks along the Long Island Sound.
If you’re outside in the sun, though, try to stick to shaded areas and paths, and don’t forget your hat, water bottle, and sunscreen. Sunburn and dehydration can happen quickly in the summer, which is why summer safety for seniors is important.
Spend the Day (or Evening) With Friends
To enjoy the most of summer, gather together with family and loved ones. Enjoy Broadview’s outdoor cafe and dining areas, as well as our umbrella-covered courtyard. Host a BBQ at your Villa residence, or join us in the dining room for a community celebration. Take in the fresh evening air while dining on the second floor clubhouse balconies, or gather together at the Learning Commons for exhibitions, lectures, public art, and so much more! Head across the street from our campus and enjoy the Pepsico Sculpture Garden, cultivated by internationally renowned garden designer Russell Page.
