Broadview Resident Linda Rachele Burke to be Inducted to Senior Hall of Fame

Purchase, New York – (October, 2024) – Broadview at Purchase resident Linda Rachele Burke, Ph.D will be honored for her professional achievements and contributions to the community.

Dr. Burke will be among 78 seniors inducted into the Westchester County Senior Citizen Hall of Fame at its 42nd Annual Awards Celebration on Friday, December 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Westchester Marriott, 670 White Plains Road, Tarrytown. 

“I am honored to recognize this year’s group of seniors and induct them into our Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame,’’ said Westchester County Executive George Latimer. “The Senior Citizens Hall of Fame is a highlight each year, as we thank the seniors in our communities for their contributions to the betterment of our County.’’

Dr. Burke has had a distinguished career as a research scientist, university professor, secondary school teacher, tutor, and environmental/climate advocate. A former resident of North Salem, she is secretary to and serves on the board of Friends of Trailside and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, and similarly is on board and is secretary of Bedford Audubon Society.

White she is retired from John Jay High School in Cross River, she maintains an active involvement with the school, tutoring and coordinating the administration of the SAT and ACT exams, and coaching the Envirothon and Science Olympiad Teams. She also collaborates with educational institutions, such as Purchase College, on expeditions to study ecosystems and biodiversity in local forests.

Internationally published, Dr. Burke was the Assistant Director of Education at the New York Botanical Garden and was on the faculties of the State University of New York and Fordham University. She is certified to teach Biology, General Science, Earth Science and Chemistry and led John Jay High School’s Science Department until June 2018.  In addition to her active involvement with the Katonah-Lewisboro School District, she is a Climate Reality Leader and a member of the Westchester and Lower Hudson Valley chapters.

The Senior Hall of Fame began as part of the 300th Anniversary of Westchester County’s founding to showcase how seniors have contributed to building the County. Over the past 42 years, nearly 1,600 seniors have been inducted.
