Meet Charter Member – Mary Jane Karger

“Broadview is truly a perfect match for my husband and me. Having spent all of our married life in Westchester, we love being able to remain close to our family and enjoy our granddaughter, as well as the proximity to nearby shopping, area activities and New York City. Coming from a large home and all of the work and upkeep that it brings, I especially like the idea of a maintenance-free, independent lifestyle while being able to enjoy wonderful amenities all on site. We really look forward to the intergenerational experiences, the opportunity to enjoy campus activities when we choose, and are proud that Broadview will support Purchase College students, faculty and education.”

Future Broadview residents, Mary Jane Karger or “MJ” and her husband, Tom, have been married since 1969. They have spent their entire married life in Westchester, and that won’t be changing anytime soon. They enjoy spending time with their two sons and granddaughter who also live in the area. In 1997, when their younger son came out as a gay man, MJ became the co-chair of the GLSEN Hudson Valley Chapter, part of a nonprofit national education organization, whose mission is to make Kindergarten through 12th-grade schools safe for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. She remains an active co-chair to this day. MJ also enjoys playing canasta, flower arranging and working on needlepoint projects.
